Small grants for PLACE research projects
PLACE is offering small grants of £50 each for up to 6 people to participate in two of our research projects this summer:
Return to the margin: changes in green space on the edge of York.
This will involve field-walking areas of the York green belt and mapping land use changes since a previous survey in 1996 (published in Town and Country: contemporary issues at the rural/urban interface (PLACE, 2000) - free copies to all participants!). The project is led by Dr Michael Hopkinson, who will run a training session for volunteers in the summer. If you are interested in taking part, please contact the PLACE Office without delay.
Brownfield sites in West Yorkshire.
This will involve surveying old industrial or derelict urban sites in the Bradford area and recording their wildlife interest. The project is led by Prof. Terry O'Connor, who will provide further details for potential volunteers. If you are interested in taking part, please contact the PLACE Office as soon as possible.
PLACE Annual General Meeting
The PLACE Annual General Meeting for 2008 will take place on Saturday 10th May in Wombleton Village Hall, near Helmsley, at 11.30am.
The AGM will form part of a day of activities for PLACE members and their guests, centred around the Nunnington area. For further details, please see our latest newsletter (attached to the home page). Non-members are welcome to attend for a small donation (but may not vote at the AGM).
